Just by looking at that photo, you can say that it has been photoshopped. Well, that’s what most people think when they first saw it. Sorry to say, but this photo is not photoshopped. That is Eshima Ohashi Bridge in Japan. Amazing, isn’t it?

This bridge has been made famous by a commercial of Daihatsu Motor Co. They shot the bridge to exaggerate that it looks really steep. It was done to show the strength of their new minivan making you believe that the minivan is driving in a really steep bridge.

In the next photo, you can see how steep the bridge really is.

Basically, you can only see how steep it is from the sides. It actually has a gradient of 6.1% on Shimane Prefecture side and 5.1% on the Tottori Prefecture side. This is something that any cars can handle.

Eshima Ohashi Bridge is a two lane bridge which connects Matsue City in Shimane Prefecture to Sakaiminato in Tottori Prefecture. It has a total length of 1.7 kilometres with the bridge part being 1.44 kilometres long. It has a width of 11.3 metres and is the largest rigid frame bridge in Japan. It is also the third largest in the world.

There are websites that says that driving over the bridge is like being in a roller coaster. In this video, it shows what it’s like to drive over the bridge. Well, looks normal to me.
